13. Your special kimono memory.

I hate to sound really egotistical but I base my kimono fashions around my gothic/rockabilly/kitch fashions in my yofuku life. I live my yofuku life through themes. My favourite are burlesque, rockabilly, medical, pirate, sailor, cheerleader…man I could go on…

The themes I love in western clothing translate through to my kimono styling.

For example:

  • Red/Black combinations – very goth
  • Polka dots and kitch patterns – rockabilly
  • Stripes/Pinstripe – again rockabilly
  • Corsets – burlesque themes
But with kimono my old ‘cyber’ routes sometimes come to light when I do bright colours. Most of my kimono and accessories are bright, and sometimes neon. I don’t do pale colours, even though recently I have tried. Reason being I seem to need kimono for a variety of events. For example, this month I need an outfit suitable for tea ceremony.
I do read a lot of kimono magazines, and love the styling however I always feel the need to follow my own path.
